Nathaniel Chastain
Nathaniel Chastain deed witness Albemarle - 22 Sep 1749 Deed book 1 pg 153
Anthony Hoggatt to John Bostick of Southam Parish, Cumberland, for 74 pounds-6    743 acres, part of the tract where grantor lives, adjoining Nathaniel Hoggatt,  Gray ____.  Witnesses:  Marvil Stone, Nathaniel Chastain, Nathaniel Hoggatt, Joel Walker.

Orig. Source: Kim Shasteen – Detail souce: Val Burd: - Transcription from the Davis book.  I found two other deeds mentioning Anthony Hoggatt, but not Nathaniel Chastain.  There is a William Gray also mentioned who lived adjoining and that may be the Gray whose name is missing.  John Bostick purchased around 2,000 acres of land between June 1745 and June 1746 according to an Albemarle survey report by Joshua Fry, gentleman, surveyor for the county.

He would have to have been born pre 1731 as I understand it, that you had to be 18 to be able to be a witness. This could make him a relative of the 1749 Deed witness by Eliz & James Sharsted and the James Chastain in the Kings War b pre 1730.

This could give a James and Nathaniel that were brothers of the right age to result in sons James and Jesse that went to KY and James whose 5 sons went to Ohio.

TO DO: Check into grants and locations of those named in deed.
