1988 IRVIN HIGH SCHOOL OUTSTANDING EX

 

     MICKEY WILHITE, Class of '67, was chosen as the Outstanding Ex for 1988 by
     the Irvin Alumni Association. Mr. Wilhite has been a Detective in the Special
     Investigations Division of the El Paso Police Department for the past 8 years; prior
     to this assignment, he served for 5 years in the Crimes Against Persons Division. He
     began his career on the police force some 17 years ago as a uniformed police officer
     on the streets of the lower valley in El Paso.

     Mr. Wilhite attended Crosby Elementary from 1959 - 1962 and then spent the next
     5 years at Irvin, graduating in May 1967. He has attended U.T.E.P., San Antonio
     College and El Paso Community College, studying History, Mortuary Science and
     Criminal Justice, concluding his formal education in 1978.

     He has lived in El Paso for 30 years. He is married to JANET TAYLOR-BECKNELL,
     Outstanding Ex for 1978 - 1979 and they have 2 daughters, Courtnee Lynn (14) and
     Steffnee Ann (11), who will be attending Irvin, graduating in the Classes of '93 and '95.

     Mr. Wilhite presently is President of the Irvin Alumni Association and is personally
     responsible for the newsletters that are an important part of keeping the alumni
     association an active, dynamic group. Mickey & Janet are also very involved in the
     class reunions that are held each July. He was also instrumental in obtaining the Nike
     Hercules Missile from the Red Stone Arsenal in Alabama, which is scheduled for
     installation in November 1988 at the front of our campus.
