Isaac Chastain (1734-1782/86) is one of the "loosely placed" Chastains, generally assumed to be the son of Pierre's third known son Rene (1713-1786).

Following are pieces of information gleaned about this man.
 
b 15 Mar 1734 King William Parish, VA. Died or left county by 1782 little else is known of him. Some say died 1786 Buckingham County (Otter pg 22 – Albemarle 1754 witness will with father, 1773 tithe list Buckingham Co, advertised 1774 Buckingham re mare, not on 1782 Buckingham tithe lists when started, not in father will 1776)

FROM LITTLE OTTER TO LOST RIVER, COOK, P. 22
-went as a young man with his father to Albemarle County, VA where in  1754 he was witness to a will with his father.
-Appears on the 1773 tithe lists of Buckingham County only.
-12 May 1774 advertised taking up of a stray mare in Buckingham County in the Virginia Gazette.
-He died OR left the county by 1782 when tax lists start.
-not named in the will of his father in 1786, although some of the grand children may be his.

-God parents were Jean Chastain, Rene's half brother; Jean Martin, Judith's brother and Jeanne Martin (KWP Register, VHS Collection 5:89)
This apparently was the "Isaac Chastin" who advertised the taking up of a stray bay mare in Buckingham County. (Virginia Gazette, Rind, Williamsburg, 12 May 1774, p. 3 , Vol. 3)
-it is possible that he is the father of the Chastains of Franklin County, VA  (Allen, 1964)

-Living in Tillatson Parish, Albemarle County, VA in 1759
-Albemarle County Deeds indexed Christian to Cocke, dated 10 Oct 1758.  (Deed Book 2, p. 114)
-David Christian of Tillotson Parish sells to John Cooke 200 acres "left to me by my father." lying on both sides of Buffalo Creek of Wiollises River.  The land adjoins that of Patrick O'Bryan.  The deed was witnessed by Benjamin Colvard, Patrick O'Byran, Alexander Trent, Henry Scruggs, and Isaac Chastain.  Was David Christian really David Chastain?
