Return to Lost and Found Classmates

I learned yesterday that Jan Wheat died on Tuesday night. She attended Stanton and Irvin, but believe she moved after our junior year and didn't graduate with us. She attended our 20th reunion at the Cattleman's She was a police officer in Georgetown, TX where I live. I was able to help her get the interview for the job about 7 years ago after she moved her from the Dallas area. I have not seen her in over a year and I recently heard from friend at the police department that she retired about a year ago because of respiratory problems. It turns out that she had lung cancer. I have not seen any notice in the obituaries about her death. I was told that there was going to be a small private funeral this weekend in Pflugerville (just north of Austin). Jan's mother is still living and is in assisted living in this area, but I have no idea where. I think that Jan has a brother who lives in Dallas and a son, Ty, who is in the Air Force and was in the Middle East not too many years ago. I think he may be stationed in Texas now. About 5-6 years ago, I got together with Jan, Dale Koelbl, John and Karen Ray and Jack and Luann Chisholm for dinner.
Jan actually was driving a patrol car in a uniform, every now and then tangling with some bad guys, while in her late fifties. Now that is saying something. When I would run into he around town, she would always give me a big hug in her uniform even though I think that is against the rules. She was very smart and funny, but very sweet and serious at the same time. She was a strong Christian. She and Dale came to hear me play guitar at my church one time when Dale was passing through town on a run. I don't if either one of them had electric guitars or women preachers at their church, but it was wonderful for all of us to be together after so many years and to be hanging out in a church rather than a bar ( not that there is anything wrong with hanging out in a bar). Dale and I just had a nice long phone call and I love reconnecting with him - he will always be my brother. Friends are precious, love lasts forever and I know there is really no death. I thank God for Jan and all of you.
