ALUMNI
& EX-STUDENTS
ASSOCIATION |
The Irvin High School Alumni & Ex Students Association is still active on paper, but does not do reunions, fundraisers, etc. where manpower is needed anymore. After 25 to 30 years of volunteering their time not to mention their children's time they have retired from that aspect. Mickey and Janet Wilhite, both '67, were instrumental over the years in carrying the Association as far as it has come. Others just retired from helping as were "tired" and with the new age of computers and having over 18,000 graduates of Irvin, it was decided that each class could plan their own reunions. Most high schools in the US do it this way and so far, there have not been any failures with it going this direction. The Association does still accept any donations from our alum which all monies go towards scholarships that are given each year to at least two graduating seniors. The Association also has numerous yearbooks (not all years) that are stored at Irvin which is the ONLY fundraiser to make monies for the scholarship fund. Mickey Wilhite is and always has been treasurer, and still keeps our status going as the Alumni Association. Most of the contact information on alumni's is maintained at the Alumni Research Directory. Regarding Irvin
High School official participation, there has been some question as to who
at Irvin High School is responsible for what. The EPISD school district policy
stipulates that personnel of Irvin High School do not plan class reunions and
are not allowed to take company time to help with any activities. The school
staff can inform you of what you can and cannot do, but most requests do need to
go through the Principal of the school. This includes school tours, pep
rallies, etc. The staff do enjoy all alumni coming, but school is still in
progress during Homecoming week and other times that Reunion activities are
scheduled and the staff must attend to business. |
